Stool donor eligibility criteria

You may be eligible to donate if:

  • You are healthy, aged 18-60, with regular bowel movements

  • You live locally to Aberdeen, Scotland

  • Are not overweight or underweight

  • You don’t smoke tobacco (vaping does not exclude you)

  • You’re not taking regularly prescribed medication

  • You don’t suffer with depression or anxiety

  • You’ve never been diagnosed with;

    • jaundice, hepatitis or known, previous or latent tuberculosis

    • HIV/AIDS

    • any type of cancer

    • inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease or Ulcerative Colitis)

    • a psychiatric condition (e.g. generalised anxiety disorder, moderate to severe clinical depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, mania)

    • irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)

    • chronic diarrhoea

    • any condition relating to the gastrointestinal tract or treated with proton pump inhibitors

    • metabolic syndrome or diabetes

    • multiple sclerosis

    • psoriasis

    • rheumatoid arthritis

    • Graves disease

    • systemic lupus erythematosus

    • autoimmune disease

    • chronic fatigue syndrome

    • a chronic pain syndrome including fibromyalgia

  • You’ve never used clotting factor concentrates

  • You’ve never been treated with Human Pituitary Growth Hormone or other Human Pituitary Extract

  • You don’t have neurological or psychiatric conditions, risk of prion disease, or been told that any of your relatives had Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD)

  • You haven’t been treated with Tigason or Neotigason (e.g. for Psoriasis or Acne)

  • You haven’t taken care of, or handled, monkeys or their body fluids

  • You haven’t been told that you should never donate blood or faeces

  • You haven’t received a dura matter (brain covering) graft

  • You haven’t had any gastrointestinal surgery (e.g. appendectomy, gallbladder surgery, gastric bypass)

  • You don’t have significant GI conditions including Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), colorectal cancer

  • You haven’t been pregnant in the last 12 months or are pregnant at present

  • You’ve never had had infertility treatment

  • You haven’t received an Anti-D in Ireland between 1 May 1977 & 31 July 1979 or 1 March 1991 & February 1994

  • You or your partner don’t have HIV?

  • You, your partner, or close household contacts, don’t have Hepatitis B or Hepatitis C

  • You have never injected, or been injected, with non- prescribed drugs – EVEN ONCE OR A LONG TIME AGO (this includes bodybuilding or illicit drugs)

  • You have never been given money or drugs in return for sex
